Community guidelines

What we ask of everyone, and how we look after the community.

We are not open yet. This is how it will work when we are. Pre-register and we will email you when it opens.

What we hope you will do

  • Share your own understanding, in your own voice.
  • Speak about your own tradition from the inside, and let others do the same.
  • Ask questions out of real curiosity.
  • Assume good faith, especially when you disagree.
  • Only confirm a statement if it is really true for you.

What is not welcome

  • Attacking, mocking or demeaning people for what they believe.
  • Hate speech of any kind.
  • Trying to convert others, or insisting that other faiths are false.
  • Pressing someone who has said no, or asking for personal details they have not offered.
  • Spam, advertising, requests for money or unrelated links.
  • Putting names or private details in a Common Ground statement.

Disagreeing is fine. You can say “I see this differently” without saying “you are wrong”.

How moderation works

  • New members’ first reflections get an automated check before they appear.
  • Reflections that raise concern are held for a person to review. Those that read more like persuading than sharing may be published with a short note for readers.
  • Private conversations are not monitored. A moderator can read one only if someone in it reports it.
  • Moderators can remove a statement from the Common Ground page if it breaks these guidelines.
  • After repeated serious violations, an account can be suspended.

If something goes wrong

In any conversation, open “Report, block or end this conversation” at the bottom of the page. You can report, block or simply stop, and you never have to explain yourself to the other person. Blocking does not tell them.

For anything else that does not belong here, tell us and include a link if you can.
