Why Universal Ground exists

Online, we get sorted into groups of people who already agree with us. People of other faiths turn into headlines, arguments or strangers, and we rarely get to know one.

Universal Ground does the reverse. It uses AI to find people from different traditions who care about the same things, and introduces them, so they can have a real conversation about what they have in common.

The question we are asking

What do all or most of the world’s religions and traditions actually agree on?

We do not claim to know, and no AI gets to answer it for us. The only honest way to find out is to ask the people who live those traditions, two at a time, and write down what they discover. What they confirm goes on the public Common Ground page, for anyone to read.

What we believe

• Every tradition deserves to be understood in its own words, by the people who live it.
• Curiosity is a form of respect.
• You can hold your own faith firmly and still listen well to someone else’s.
• Shared values are a place to begin, not a reason to pretend the differences do not exist.

The name

Universal Ground is not a claim that all religions are the same. They are not, and nobody here is asked to pretend otherwise. It is a place to stand together, with firm footing, while staying exactly who you are.

Where this is going

The world is losing the kind of community where neighbors look out for one another. Once the conversations are working, we want to help rebuild it, with ways to give back wherever you live and to help people who need it, including people without a home. That work needs real checks and balances, so it will come later.

How we keep it respectful

Disagreement is welcome. Disrespect is not. You choose who you talk to, you can report or block anyone, and our guidelines explain what we expect.
